I love to shop, cook and please people. There are no greater joys in my life, but hell, that’s how I roll! “Laissez les bons-temps rouler!”

I find when I’m hunting shop to shop for the needed spice, the undisjointed oxtail, the perfect fifth of mead, and all those other crazy obstacles we put ourselve through to make the perfect meal a “succes fou” I can distract myself from anything troubling my mind or my heart.

When something’s troubling you, shop then cook! It’s a lot cheaper than therapy, and all that home cooking (you’ve only yourself to thank) is the perfect panacea for most problems. It certainly cures homesickness, at the very least. And it certainly makes you a lot happier knowing that you’re eating healthier and eating meals just like grandma used to make!

In meditation for stress relief, is it ok to incorporate a soothing song and jus meditate on the lyrics?

im a Christian and practicing meditation (jus for stress relief not for spiritual purposes) but i find that certain songs are very calming and relaxing when i am stressed and they are Christian songs in worship to God. it is soft slow music and soothing.. is it okay to incorporate this into practical meditation and focus on the lyrics instead of something like my breath or a word or phrase that i repeat?

i took the Valium for quite some time…
then i happened across an Apothocary who told me, actually gave me an herbal prescription for an herbal substitute for Valium:

1/2 ounce Valerian Root
1/2 pint of Ginger Brandy

Shake well each time you use it

take one teaspoon as needed

IT ABSOLUTELY WORKS

I suppose you could go
to the health food store and get the Valerian Root in capsule form and take it as a capsule….
but, it will not have the same affect!

go ahead and get the capsules
break ‘em apart…
’til you get about a 1/2 oz of the herb
mix with 1/2 pint of ginger brandy

this will not give you the “kick” of a valium
but…it will definitely help with your stress

one thing to know:
before you start messing around with Valerian Root Powder: IT STINKS!
It smells worse than week old gym socks

What makes dancing a stress relief and problems?

Whenever I get stressed I start dancing and I feel so much better, what does the body do to relief stress and reduces my problems?

I feel exactly the same, it is down to a number of different factors.
Exercise releases “happy hormones” which make you more relaxed and happy after a bout of exercises, this is why you often feel euphoric or very “light” afterwards.
Some people get hapiness out of dance and not other forms of exercises, I operate like this, I on the whole hate most forms of exercise but I realy LOVE Ballet, and it destresses me after a hard week of school and homelife :)

What is a good gift to give someone for stress relief?

I was thinking about paying for my mom to get a massage. Does anyone else have any suggestions that might be good for stress relief? Nothing to do with bath scents or anything like that, artificial scents give her headaches.

Massage is very relaxing. I would appreciate that.

I would think about the things that you KNOW make HER relaxed.

Maybe she loves the garden – a hammock could be great.
Does she relax when reading? – a good book.
Take her to the beach or the mountains for a weekend.
Take her to see a film.
Take her and two friends to an open garden and buy them afternoon tea.
Visit for two days and give her breakfast in bed and lovely walks in the
neighbourhood.
Accompany her to church if she is a church goer – singing hymns is relaxing.
Buy her a CD of her favourite music or take her to hear an orchestra.
Teach her to meditate.
Encourage her to have a long bath without scents.
Find a wonderful outdoor nature area within walking distance to her home and
encourage her to walk there and spend time each day. Accompany her often.
If there is a particular worry, help her confront it – Does she want to clean out
her linen press, clear out a room or swap the car over for example? Help her
