Life, Love, and Stress

Many people in the world we live in today experience some form of stress. The inevitable stress is something that happens to all of us and leads many on a quest to find some way to deal with it. Stress relief is a great option because it provides you with a manageable and healthy way to deal with the stresses of everyday life, with work and school and other activities many adults, teens and children experience stress, which is why scientists have tried to find ways that will safely reduce those stresses.

When it comes to stress relief a lot of people turn to therapy or relaxation techniques to deal with stress, this is a very popular form of stress relief because in most cases it provides fast results and allows the person to calm down and reflect. Remember that stress will never totally disappear because no matter what, stress in going to occur whether you try to stop it or not, it is a natural part of life. Stress can also help you, it is not all bad, it can be a good motivator for people who need that extra push in work or school.

Eustress, Distress and How to Deal

If you are considering stress relief, you should first consider what kind of stress you are experiencing, not all stress is bad stress. There are two main kinds of stress, Eustress and distress. The first kind called Eustress, refers to positive or healthy stress, the Greek word for “good” is Eu which provides us with the term Eustress or good stress. This kind of stress can propel you to work harder, it gives you drive and motivation to do your best at whatever you have to do.

Eustress can be any kind of stress that has a positive experience behind it. The second kind of stress is distress which can be seriously harmful for you and the people around you, this kind of stress can make you cave under pressure, make you feel sick and fatigued. Usually distress is triggered by a traumatic event of some kind such as the death of a loved one.

But no matter what kind of stress you experience, stress relief is quite possibly the best way to deal with stress. Some helpful stress relief strategies include, full body relaxation techniques, these can be tremendously helpful when dealing with stress, start by sitting back closing your eyes and taking a deep breath lose yourself in thought but try not to think about anything that does not make you happy, with each deep breath relax your muscles starting at your head and working down, before you know it, you have relaxed your entire body, this can be a very helpful tool for stress relief.

Another good idea would be to think positively about your life and your job, thinking about things with a negative attitude only increases the stress level and it does not help your situation at all, so relax and try not to worry excessively, because worrying is never good for anyone. Setting goals for yourself can also be a helpful stress relief strategy, by setting yourself goals it gives you something to work toward one step at a time, avoiding the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Some natural herbs and minerals can help with stress as well, things like vitamin C and others can help you feel rejuvenated, while Calcium can help to relax your muscles which can be a big part in dealing with stress, the ability to relax is what you need for good stress relief. But not all stress relief is good, some people try to relieve stress by taking it out on others, overeating, or not eating at all. Stress is different for everyone and you should try to work with whatever makes you feel happy and healthy, try to avoid sugar and junk foods, going for a run or any other physical activity can be good when dealing with stress, it is really a matter of personal preference, doing what you love can help you relax and take your mind off the stressor.

What is a good gift to give someone for stress relief?

I was thinking about paying for my mom to get a massage. Does anyone else have any suggestions that might be good for stress relief? Nothing to do with bath scents or anything like that, artificial scents give her headaches.
Thanks for your help! :)

Answer
Massage is very relaxing. I would appreciate that.

I would think about the things that you KNOW make HER relaxed.

Maybe she loves the garden – a hammock could be great.
Does she relax when reading? – a good book.
Take her to the beach or the mountains for a weekend.
Take her to see a film.
Take her and two friends to an open garden and buy them afternoon tea.
Visit for two days and give her breakfast in bed and lovely walks in the
neighbourhood.
Accompany her to church if she is a church goer – singing hymns is relaxing.
Buy her a CD of her favourite music or take her to hear an orchestra.
Teach her to meditate.
Encourage her to have a long bath without scents.
Find a wonderful outdoor nature area within walking distance to her home and
encourage her to walk there and spend time each day. Accompany her often.
If there is a particular worry, help her confront it – Does she want to clean out
her linen press, clear out a room or swap the car over for example? Help her
in a practical sense to set obtainable gaols for these things and to achieve them.

Whats some food that helps relief stress?

Like don’t say chocolate…
I mean like healthy foods…
I heard like milk is good for that kind of thing…
Also is B2 good for stress relief?

Answer
Please don’t eat to relieve stress, it will become your worst habit. Maybe not now but sooner or later. But, if you must, then milk is good. Protein enriched foods, try peanuts. Protein is good for brain health, which will in turn balance the anxiety you have. Also any type of fruit. It’s not instant though, unless you believe it is.

They are all good depending on how your body is feeling at the time, but for what you are asking I believe the best is “Restorative” yoga. If you can find a yoga studio that offers it, you will feel so relaxed afterwards.

Answer
I don’t know what works for others but I always think ahead. By that I mean what the day will be and how I will feel after the stressful event. I think, “just get it done.” I also have a punching bag-just putting on my gloves and knowing I get to beat the hell out of something makes me feel sooooo much better!

What do you recommend as a stress relief herb?

I ve used Brozac before but I cant bear the side effects. Would u suggest another solution please.

Answer
V A L E R I A N * R O O T

Yes indeed as the previous Answerer says, “It is a Healing Herb!”

Years ago I was prescribed Valium…
i took the Valium for quite some time…
then i happened across an Apothocary who told me, actually gave me an herbal prescription for an herbal substitute for Valium:

1/2 ounce Valerian Root
1/2 pint of Ginger Brandy

Shake well each time you use it

take one teaspoon as needed

IT ABSOLUTELY WORKS

I suppose you could go
to the health food store and get the Valerian Root in capsule form and take it as a capsule….
but, it will not have the same affect!

go ahead and get the capsules
break ‘em apart…
’til you get about a 1/2 oz of the herb
mix with 1/2 pint of ginger brandy

this will not give you the “kick” of a valium
but…it will definitely help with your stress

one thing to know:
before you start messing around with Valerian Root Powder: IT STINKS!
It smells worse than week old gym socks

Give it a try

IT ABSOLUTELY WORKS!

(if you are having trouble sleeping, try: SCULLCAP TEA before your retire)

What are some good stress relief exercises I could do?

I am extremely stressed out almost all the time. I always have random thoughts going through my mind, I get extremely stressed about things that aren’t even happening! I need some help. Some stress relief exercises or something, as this may help me to stop this.

Answer
Any kind of physical exercise releases good chemicals in our body, giving us a sense of well being. Physical exercise also keeps us busy, and our minds off of our problems. It helps us to focus on the task at hand, and crowds out random thoughts. Calisthenics, jogging, walking, pilates, yoga, again, any physical exercise, all good for us. Stay within your physical limitations, start out a new exercise program gently to avoid injury.

Relaxation exercises are also good, Rivers does them at bedtime, in bed, and they really do relax me, and help me to sleep. I start at my feet, and work upward. I tense the muscles in my feet, really hard, hold that for as long as I can, then relax and take a deep cleansing breath. then I do my legs, my hips, my torso, my arms, and my neck and shoulders. If I am really wound up, I will repeat some of them. These can be done during the day, too, when you need to chill out.

Everyone does the getting oneself stressed out over nothing thing, we all explore solutions to problems, and sometimes the solutions are not even needed, and sometimes we find out there really was not even a problem, we were just “borrowing trouble”. It is when these thoughts take over, and become reality, and/or that we obsess over them that there is a problem.
Recently a friend misinterpreted something I said, and got all bent out of shape over it. I finally asked what was bothering her, she told me, and I repeated what I had said. She understood it then, and realized the problem was all in her head. Neither one of us could figure out why she misunderstood, except that her own personal history got in the way of her understanding me and what I meant. But, when it was over, it was over, and she admitted that I had not said anything wrong, or upsetting. If she had continued to be upset, I would think she was having some mental problems with sorting reality from her past problems, and would have suggested she seek some help.

By all means try physical exercise to help you, your doctor will be pleased that you used your head to try to help yourself. And another suggestion is to find a hobby or an activity to keep yourself distracted from the thoughts. Find something that a time investment of a few hours gives you a completed project, and a big reward of self pride. Too much time on a person’s hands to think up things to worry about is not good.

But, you should seek treatment, and get help. If you can’t tell the difference between reality and fantasy, the time to go get help is now. If you are losing sleep, or nervous and anxious about the thoughts most of the time, you should get help.
